RECALL ‘EM ALL

Published by Nick at 5:28 pm under Lege Watch

On the last post, a member asked,

How do I find out Election Statistics about my legislator?

Well, don’t know that I know much about this subject, so if I get this wrong, y’all feel free to edumucate me on this.

First, you go to the Secretary of States web site.  The web address is easy to remember, just remember the mayday distress call for ships.  If only those folks running the communications system on the Titantic had remembered to use the new code, then they might have been saved.  It is SOS - short for “Save Our Souls” or “Secretary of State”.  Then followed by a dot then the states name another dot and then gov for government.  All together, it is: www.sos.louisiana.gov

So the information on how to do a recall can be found on this site.  Click here to go to the RECALL ELECTIONS site at the Secretary Of States Office.  JaryDardenne is the current Secretary of State.  They have a sample recall petition posted.

First up, we need to know how many signatures we need for the recall petition.  My understanding is that we need 1/3 of all regtistered voters - both active and inactive.  This part of the SOS web site (click here) allows us to pull up the Voter Registration States.

For example, for Ann “Pork Chop” Dupplessis, she is in Senate District 2.  So select “State Senate District” for the Jurisdiction; then Jurisdiction Value select “2″; then press the “Get Data” button.

There are 56,091 voters in Senate State District 2.

Other stats provided.  6.7% of them are White; 86.3% of them are Black; and 7.0% of them are Other.  The district is 76.95 Democrat; 4.9% Republican; and 18.2% Other.

By Gender, the district is 41.5% Male and 58.5% Female - This huge gender gap imbalance helps explain the outrageous misandric nature of politicians from this district.  An estimated 20% of the male voting population has been driven out of politics.

The voting age breakdown is 2.3% between 18-20; 29.1% between 21-34; 18.3% between 35-44; 20.0% between 45-54; 16.0% between 55-64; and 14.3% over 65.

Once you decide to go ahead, you will need to buy a voter list - or find someone who bought a list in the past to give one to you.  If you have to buy one, you can call the Voter Registration office at (225) 922-0900 or email voterlistrequest@sos.louisiana.gov

You can get the lists on a CD-ROM or via email for only a peny a name.  The cost can not exceed $5,000.  The minimum charge is $20 for 2,000 names.  Perhaps a group buy of all the voter names in the state would be the best option for all the recall groups.

You can find the election results for any given vote at the “Election Results Inquiry” page (click here).  Select the type of race you need the results on and select the election date.  10/20/07 would be the last major primary.  The runoff date would be 11/17/07.   If your rep or senator was elected by a single parish, then select “All Races in a Parish”.  If you senator was elected by Multiple parishes, then select “Multiparish races”  Then press the “Get Results” button.

Since we selected “Results in a Parish”, now we have to pick the parish.  Lets pick “Orleans”.  This gives us these results:  click here

Scroll down until you find the particular race you are interested in.

State Senator, 2nd Senatorial District
All 75 precincts reporting
Click here for Results by Precinct
1,612 14.23% Yolanda A. Dupaty-Zeigler, D Defeated
5,608 49.50% Ann Duplessis, D Runoff
4,110 36.28% Jon D. Johnson, D Runoff

Then select the “Click here for Results by Precinct” to get a precinct by precinct count.  I would recommend that you organize up your recall effort on a Precinct level.  It will make it easier for them to verify the signatures and it will also make it easier for you to identify where to target to get the signatures that you still need.  Each precinct should be managable size of voters and they should all be in the same neighborhood.

Here are the results for Senator Duplessis.

New Election Results Request

The Secretary of States office also provides a list of voters and voting statistics for each parish.  You can download this excel spreadsheet (click here) to obtain a list, by precinct, showing the voting statistics for each and every precinct in the entire state.  This list can be compared to the election results.

So to recall Duplessis, we would need about 150 active volunteers - 2 per precinct, who can contact and obtain all the voters in their particular precinct.

Now that would be a managable task for any volunteer.

Good luck folks.
