Push-polled by Conrad Appel

Published by Laura at 6:19 pm under Lege Watch

I was just push-polled by Conrad Appel.  A representative of Western Research just called, asked some voting history and demographic questions, and then started with some increasingly negative questions about Polly Thomas.  The first was related to her taking a handgun out of her purse and “waving it around” at a meeting to prove she is tough on crime.  The second accused her of corruption; something about taking bribes and the school board.  (?)

Way to be honest and straightforward, Mr. Appel.  You just lost my vote.  We have enough sneaky, underhanded politicians in Baton Rouge; we don’t need to add you to their number.

After receiving your email I am no longer subscribed to this site… You have no proof to back this claim up and I find it absurd. Also, I am not a big Appel fan, but this woman has run 9 times and has lost elections left and right. It sounds to me that she is desperate for office therefore I will not be voting for her and no longer receiving your emails.

John, it’s a free country - disbelieve me if you like. Notice, please, that I did NOT endorse Thomas. I just described the phone call I got from the Appel campaign that convinced me he is more of the same; that is NOT an endorsement of Thomas.

I have no ties with Thomas; most of what I know of her is that people keep drawing mustaches on her signs. I have no idea whether I’ll vote for her. But I will certainly not be voting for Appel. And if you go back and read my last post, I was inclined to do so - until now.

Elections are not a zero sum game - I can vote for neither of them, and that’s certainly looking like a good option.

I have contacted Mr. Appel’s campaign and expressed my displeasure at this type of campaigning (push-polling), and furthermore I expressed my frustration with the ammount of unsolicted phone calls I received during last weeks elections. I plan on contacing my Kenner City Councilman about creating a do not call list in order to prevent these annoying calls.

I am also majorly angry with the Norma Broussard campaign for the shear volume of unsolicited recorded phone calls from her campaign. She even went as far as having the Chief of Police for Kenner record a call. That really freaked out my wife who is not from here, and is not used to this “win at all cost” type of campaigns that are native to Louisiana politics.

If anyone else is annoyed by this out of control campaign practice please feel free to contact me through the form at recallmartiny.org.

This is truly a shame because I feel Mr. Appel is the right man for the job, and to see him resort to this is alarming. If he turns off the eletorate to the point where Poly Thomas gets elected it will be a crisis for the area - Thomas in the Senate and Labruzzo in the house - “not good Larry”!

    Thanks, Alex.

I’d dearly love a “do not call” option but Louisiana’s Do Not Call list explicitly allows political calls. I’m not sure a parish or city can override that.

Legal or not, it is certainly unsavory. I cannot trust a candidate who does something so sneaky to get elected, to conduct himself honorably after being elected.

Truly sad! I would sugest we lobby the legisalture to ammend that, but I feel it would be a waste of time. I will write to Jindal about it and see if I can get a resonse. The robo calls and polls need to stop for those who do not whish to recieve them. It is especially horrible when candidates have local law enforcement officials robo calling!
